The term “wear your investment” is catchy but should invite caution when used as a selling pitch.

While diamonds and diamond jewelry have been appreciating in value, it is generally not a good investment option for the general public.  There are a few reasons why I think that diamond jewelry should not be considered as an investment option–at least not one that can generate a profit in the near future.

Diamonds, even though they appreciate in value, have a hefty markup when they are sold at a brick and mortar (retail) store.  This markup is usually large enough to eradicate any price appreciation in the short term.

Diamond jewelry pieces with smaller diamonds are especially not a good investment option.  In general, the smaller the diamonds on a piece, the harder it will be for you to sell it, and the lower your selling price will be compared to the original buying price.

There are always exceptions to this general trend.  For example, platinum, gold and metal alloy prices have gone up by %100 – %200 in the last year and a half.  The prices for high quality diamonds above 5 carats have also gone up significantly.

The bottom line is:  Choose the jewelry pieces you love wearing.  Wear your jewelry and enjoy it!  Invest your money with a brokerage firm, not your jeweler.  Keep in mind that your jeweler is not your investment advisor!

Thanks to ESPN360, we have been watching all of the Euro 2008 soccer matches in our offices. We have hardcore fans of France, Italy, Turkey and Holland in our offices. But since Italy seems to be the most popular team, I am taking this opportunity to blog about their win over France today and their advancement to the next round!

The men in blue defeated the Franks 2-0 in a beautiful match at Zurich – Letzigrund. As one headline today said “France sunk as Italy grabs lifeline”, this was a must win match for Italy and they did it! YES, YES, YES (you can tell where my allegiances stand)!!!

I watched the latest Pirates of the Caribbean movie, At Worlds End a few days ago and I loved it.  The plot, the cinematography, the thrill, the special effects, they were all simply amazing.  But what especially caught my attention was the jewelry the pirates were wearing!  I guess because I am in the trade of diamond jewelry I tend to notice any jewelry worn in movies, on tv, or pretty much anywhere.

Personally, I find it a great fashion statement for men to wear jewelry pieces, especially rings. Recently I came across a collection of rings based on the Pirates of the Caribbean movie on About.com.

I personally liked them but cannot imagine many people in the twenty first century wearing diamond rings with human skulls on them.  I think a diamond men’s ring from the CleverEve’s Men’s collection might be the right fit for the pirate at heart.
